Liquid Memories
Photographic and perceptive elements blend together in this multi-sensory installation.
– created during “residences/between identity and memory” of the SAPS group
Upon entering the room, the viewer’s eyes would need time to adjust to the very dim light, forcing them to rely on their other senses to explore the space. They find themselves in a dark environment where the rhythmic sound of water drops marks the passage of time, and the scent of leaves and water, fill the room with a rich, earthy, and humid aroma. Deprived of sight, the visitor must find another way to navigate the space, drawing upon memories evoked by the familiar sound and scent.

Gradually, as their eyes adjust to the darkness, shapes, objects, and the dimensions of the room begin to emerge. Then, like a photograph slowly developing before their eyes, the specular projection of the outside world appears on the ceiling and walls.
As the viewer examines the image to understand which part of the world it represents, they realize the images are in motion. They are inside a multi-sensory camera, a place of memory, where personal memories are not fixed but flow in harmony with the rhythm of the water drops.
